Salary: $79,428.00 - $96,576.00 Annually

The City of Tukwila is currently searching for a Fleet Technician to join our team! The Fleet Technician performs a full journey level activities in troubleshooting, altering, maintaining, and repairing City equipment to include emergency vehicles.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs maintenance and repairs on vehicles, equipment, and heavy equipment to include police vehicles; replaces air, hydraulic and anti-lock brakes; repairs transmissions; works on electrical systems; repairs heating and cooling systems; and repairs engines.
  • Selects and purchases various equipment and supplies as needed and maintains inventory.
  • Diagnoses and troubleshoots vehicle and equipment problems in the shop and in the field.
  • Designs and fabricates equipment parts not readily available including welding fatigued or failed components, converting equipment to meet seasonal needs, adding modifications to existing equipment, and designing specialized tools and accessories.
  • Performs routine inspections and preventive maintenance activities for City vehicles and equipment.
  • Prepares and maintains various records, documents, and reports.
  • Provides technical advice to others working in the shop and monitors shop equipment to ensure that the equipment is in safe working order.
  • Prepares vehicles and equipment for replacement, to include removing special equipment   and lettering.
  • Responds to service calls for emergency repair.
  • Assists departments in writing specifications for new equipment and vehicles; installs equipment; and makes modifications to equipment and vehicles.

Requirements

Education, Experience and Other Requirements

  • Completion of an approved vocational program and three years of journey level mechanic experience
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Valid Driver's License with a Class-A CDL endorsement within 6 month of hire
  • Employee’ must furnish a full set of their own ASE and metric hand tools
  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • A Class A Commercial Driver’s License is required for the position. If you do not have one, the City may assist in sending you for training. You will be required to complete your CDL-A within the first six (6) months of hire as a condition of employment.
