Final Salute

Warren L. Pitcher, 81, of Sherman, passed away on January 24, 2026 at Candlewood Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of the late Luanne (Haas) Pitcher. Warren was born in New Milford hospital on April 23, 1944, son of the late Warren R. Pitcher and Hazel (Dickinson) Pitcher of Bridgewater. Warren grew up on the Pitcher family farm in Bridgewater with his brother William and his loving sister Janet.

Warren graduated from New Milford High School, after which he voluntarily enlisted in the US Navy in 1965 during the Vietnam War and attended RTC in Great Lakes, IL. Following RTC, Warren became a Seabee and was assigned to US MCB-1 in Rhode Island as an Equipment Operator, where he completed 2 tours in Vietnam between 1966-1968. Warren was honorably discharged having earned the National Defense Service Medal, Fleet Marine Force combat insignia, and the Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze star and two campaign stars.

Following Naval service, Warren returned home and moved to Sherman where he started his family and raised his children. He worked for Garrity Construction of Bridgewater for 10 years, after which Warren started his own business in 1978, Pitcher Excavating, which he ran for40 years until his retirement.

Warren loved Sherman, and spent countless hours volunteering his time for the betterment of his community. Warren was a volunteer Firefighter, and was elected Chief 3 times from 1979-1985. He served on the Board of Selectmen, the Park & Rec commission, the Planning and Zoning commission, and spent time serving as the Road Commissioner, where he volunteered the use of his personal equipment for the town’s use. Warren was involved in the building or renovation of most of modern day Sherman. He built or re-constructed the roads for many of the subdivisions in Sherman, did construction on the town lakes including Lake Mauweehoo and Candlewood, and did work on many Sherman landmarks and community sites, including both the new and old post-offices, the Sherman Town beach, Sherman Library, Highway Department, multiple parks and fields, and White Silo Farm to name a few.He performed renovations on many historic homes in town, as well as contributed to the building of many of the modern homes. During Hurricane Floyd in 1999, he served as an active first responder during catastrophic damage and helped repair much of the damage to the town after. Those who knew Warren remember him for his generosity, honesty, integrity, hard work, sense of humor, and his dedication to his town and community. His legacy will forever live on through his contributions to the Town of Sherman.

Per Warren’s request, there will be no calling hours, and burial will be private. The family intends to hold a memorial celebration in his honor, which will be announced at a later date.

Lillis Funeral home is handling all arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his honor to Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
