Final Salute

Lee Duba, 85, a lifelong resident of Libertyville, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026.Born in Chicago to Paul and Agnes Duba, Lee was a graduate of the Libertyville Freemont Township High School Class of 1958. Following school, he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War in the Navy Seabees at Chu Lai Air Base. Known for his maturity and thoughtful insight, he was affectionately nicknamed “Mom” by his fellow Seabees.

Upon returning from service, Lee reconnected with a high school classmate, Judith. The beginnings of a lifelong romance. A Master Plumber for over 40 years, Lee was a dedicated union member who worked largely with H.T. Stringer in Lake Forest before serving as the Libertyville Plumbing Inspector prior to retirement.

Lee’s passions were many: in his youth, he raced sports cars at Wilmot Hills, and later became a master gardener known for his abundant peaches and vegetables. He was a fixture in local sports, coaching his son’s youth football and softball teams, as well as the Lake County Lakers women’s softball team. An avid fan, he always cheered for the Chicago Blackhawks and the Green Bay Packers. He will be dearly missed, his legacy treasured by all who knew him.

Lee is survived by his children Robb Niemann and Less (Michael) Boyd; his grandchildren Josh Becker, Laurel (Mitch Wolin) Becker, Jake (Immie) Becker, Max Niemann, Alex Niemann and Luke Niemann; his great-grandchildren Milo Becker and Juliet Wolin; his sisters Pamela (Geoffrey) Stover and Judith (Steve) Hoover and his brother Craig (Debbie) Duba. He is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Judith and his parents.

Visitation for Lee will be held from 12:00 – 3:30 PM on Saturday April 11th at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl, Libertyville. Funeral Services with military honors will be held at 3:30 PM. Interment will be held at a later date at Ft. Sheridan National Cemetery. Funeral info (847) 362-2626.
