A service honoring the life of Andrew Tommie Walter, age 90, will be held at 12:00 P.M., Sunday, April 26, 2026, in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes of West Monroe. Visitation will begin at 11:00 A.M. until service time. Interment will follow at 2:00 P.M at Lapine Assembly cemetery under the direction and care of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes of West Monroe.

He was born on August 19, 1935, and passed away on April 24, 2026.

Tommie is survived by his sons, Thomas Walter and his wife, Linda and their children, Waylan Alexander, Brad Walter and April Adams; James Carey Walter and his wife, Sherry and their children, James “Red” Walter and Shasta Moore; daughter, Cathy Walter Simmons and children, Nicholas Simmons, Jonathan Simmons, Jennifer Sikes; and many great grandchildren; and close family members, Lloyd Fields, William Fields and Bettie Tee.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie “Cookie” Walter; his parents, J.C. and Rossie Walter; brothers, Larkin, Lavelle, David and Charles Walter; sisters, Marie Mays, Glenda Faye Youngblood, Barbara McDonald and Billie Sue McPhearson.

Tommie proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Frogman, Seabee, and demolition expert. During the Korean War, he endured the hardships of being a prisoner of war, demonstrating remarkable courage and resilience. Throughout his life, Tommie pursued knowledge by earning special certifications from CalTech, USC, and UCLA Medical. Beyond his accomplishments, he cherished the simple joys by spending time with friends and family, watching football, and enjoying great food together. He was a member of The Assembly church in West Monroe and retired as an oilfield supervisor. He will be remembered for his strength, dedication, and the warmth he brought to those around him.

Honoring Tommie as Active pallbearers will be Brad Walter, Waylan Alexander, Jax Alexander, Nicholas Simmons, Jonathan Simmons and Brock Fogle.

Honorary pallbearers will be James “Red” Walter, Brian Moore, Cass Alexander, Landon Walter.
