John Robert Mattingly Sr, age 82, of Mabelvale, passed away peacefully at his home on May 7, 2026. Born on October 9, 1943 in Little Rock, Arkansas, John proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War as a U.S. Navy Seabee. Following his military service, John built a successful career as a financial advisor, while offering countless hours of his time volunteering at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church.
John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who was deeply loved by all who knew him. He was a true family man whose greatest joy came from spending time with those he loved most. He enjoyed deer hunting, coaching youth basketball, watching Razorback sports, and making memories with family and friends throughout his life.
He was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus and an original member of St. Theresa’s Church. His faith and commitment to his church and community were an important part of his life.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Wanda J. Mattingly, his children; Celeste Billington, John R. Mattingly Jr., Pride Russell, wife of Kevin, Brock Mattingly, Scott Mattingly, Jarrod Mattingly, husband of Stacey, and Charlsie Mattingly; 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers; 5 sisters; and many cherished cousins, extended family members, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John A. and Edna L. Mattingly, and in-laws Charles and Helen Wheaton.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 12 beginning with a rosary service at 1:30 p.m. followed by Mass at 2:00 p.m. at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Little Rock.
John will be remembered for his strength, kindness, dedication to his family, and the love he shared with everyone around him. His presence will be greatly missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
