Richard Joseph Lillis, age 83, of East Patchogue, New York, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

Born to Loretta and Joseph Lillis, Richard lived a life rooted in compassion, resilience, and a deep commitment to helping others. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, including service, aboard the USS Enterprise, and as a member of a Naval Construction Battalion, known as the “Seabees” in Vietnam.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Robert “Bobby” Lillis and his nephew, Christopher D’Angelo.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Tracy (Lillis) Tichy, and her husband, Stephen; his sister, Elizabeth (Lillis) D’Angelo, and her husband, Anthony; his grandson, Charles J. Bower, and Charles’s fiancé, Jenna Bockman. He is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews.

Richard dedicated his life to supporting others in meaningful ways. Whether tending his vegetable garden and sharing its harvest, or offering a listening ear and a steady presence in difficult times, he was always ready to lend a helping hand. He was especially proud of earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Human Services from St. Joseph’s College in Patchogue in 2010, and of his work as an addiction counselor, where he made a lasting difference in the lives of many.

He had a deep love for his family and found peace and joy in the natural world. He treasured time spent gardening, being near the ocean, and enjoying the beauty of mountains, wildlife, and nature. Those who knew him will remember his loving spirit, strength, independence, humor, and unmistakable determination.

A graveside service will be held at Calverton National Cemetery on Friday, June 12, 2026, at 1:00 PM, where he will be interred. There will be no viewing.

Richard will be deeply missed and remembered with love by all who knew him.
