Final Salute

Anthony “Tony” David Tamarindo passed away from the effects of mesothelioma on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Kaplan House in Danvers with loved ones at his side.

Anthony was born in Gloucester on June 22, 1941, to Antonio and Augusta (Curreri) Tamarindo. He attended local public schools, and graduated from Gloucester High Vocational School, class of 1960. While at the high school he learned the carpentry trade, and after graduation entered the profession, joined the Carpenter’s Union, and honed his natural abilities into the skills of a master craftsman. He worked for local contracting companies such as Sawyer’s and Hunt’s building, restoring and renovating residential properties on Cape Ann for most of his career, and with DeIulis Brothers of Lynn in later years.

Anthony joined the Naval Reserve and served two tours of active duty with the Seabees (Navy Construction Battalion). The first was in Antigua after which he returned to inactive duty and a year later he was recalled to active duty in Vietnam and was honorably discharged. While in the navy, he learned other building skills such as masonry, excavation, heavy machinery operating, site preparation. He was not just a jack of all trades; he was the master of most.

Anthony achieved a life-long ambition to own a house on a lake when he and his life partner bought property in Barrington, NH. He enjoyed many years of puttering around his favorite place. In their retirement years they escaped the harsh New England winter weather when they purchased a home in Florida.

Last fall, Anthony’s health began to decline after it was discovered that he had mesothelioma. During the worst of it, he was grateful to have round-the-clock care from a dedicated and loving team of family members who tended to his every need at home and transported him to his appointments and treatments at medical facilities in the Boston and Tampa areas. He also benefited greatly from Care Dimensions staff who provided care in his last few weeks.

In addition to his beloved Joanne Aiello, Anthony leaves his sisters, Josephine Frontiero, Gloria Nicastro, and Rosemarie Lambert, several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, and the extended Aiello, Curreri and Tamarindo families.

He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers-in-law James Frontiero, Joseph Nicastro, Donald Lambert, and great-nephew, Jamey Pszenny.

A visitation will be held in St. Ann’ Chuch, Holy Family on Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. followed by a Mass celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.
