Final Salute

Douglas A. Rudisuhle passed away on June 15, 2026, after a life that was lived fully, worked honestly, and devoted to the people he loved.

Doug was born on October 17, 1943, in Hokah, MN to Arthur and Dorothy (Dillberg) Rudisuhle. From an early age, he developed the determination, work ethic, and loyalty that would become hallmarks of his character throughout his life.

A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Doug served his country from 1961 to 1968 as a Navy Seabee. The values he carried from his military service: dedication, integrity, loyalty, and perseverance, all remained with him throughout his life.

April 10, 1965, Doug married the love of his life and best friend, Sharon L. Rudisuhle (Noren). Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, family, friendship, and countless memories. Their marriage spanned 45 years until Sharon’s passing in May of 2010. Those who knew them knew they were a team, and their love story remained one of the greatest blessings of Doug’s life.

Doug was a loving, protective, and fiercely supportive father. He was also a proud Papa to his three grandsons. Nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his family and watching the people he loved grow and succeed.

A lifelong hard worker, Doug was a proud owner of RJ Automotive, where he earned the trust and respect of countless customers over the years. Even after selling the business, he continued working there because he genuinely loved what he did. Retirement never seemed to suit him. In fact, Doug worked until his final fusion surgery in 2024.

To Doug, customers were never just customers, they became friends. Every Christmas season, he would personally call each customer to wish them a “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year”. It wasn’t a business practice. It was simply who he was. He cared about people, remembered them, and wanted them to know they mattered.

An avid car enthusiast, Doug was the proud owner of his beloved 1967 Pontiac GTO, affectionately known as “Gus.” Alongside Sharon, he was a longtime member of the Cruisin’ Tigers GTO Club, where they formed lasting friendships and shared countless memories. Cherished memories he kept with him always. Cars, car shows, NASCAR, and WWE wrestling were among his favorite pastimes, second only to the time he spent with family and friends.

To know Doug was to know loyalty. He was a good friend, a dependable friend, and the kind of man whose word meant something. He showed up when people needed him, worked hard without complaint, and loved deeply without conditions.

Doug was preceded in death by his father, Arthur J. Rudisuhle; his mother, Dorothy (Dillberg) Rudisuhle; his sisters, Lois Rudisuhle and Normi Shamblin; and his beloved wife and best friend, Sharon Rudisuhle.

He leaves behind his son, Jeffrey S. Rudisuhle; daughter, Jennifer L. Rudisuhle; grandsons Zachary M. Rudisuhle, Reece M. McCowan (Destiny), and Jackson D. Kindstrom, and his beloved sister Patricia Duskin; along with many extended family members, friends, customers, fellow car enthusiasts, and all whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

Doug faced life’s challenges with remarkable courage and determination. A Navy veteran, cancer survivor, devoted husband, father, grandfather, businessman, and friend, he met every obstacle with grit and resilience. He simply refused to quit.

His family will remember his strength. His friends will remember his loyalty. His customers will remember his kindness. The car community will remember his passion. And everyone fortunate enough to know him will remember a man who worked hard, loved deeply, and left a lasting mark on the lives around him.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in imagining Doug reunited with Sharon, catching up on the years they spent apart, and perhaps taking “Gus” out for one more cruise.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Gathering will be held on Monday, June 29, 2026 from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. at the Dunn Family Funeral Home with Crematory, 1801 Douglas Road, Oswego, Illinois 60543. Inurnment with honors will follow at Lincoln Memorial Park, in Aurora, IL.
