Final Salute

Roy T. Thompson, age 82, of Stratford, beloved husband of Sharon Reed Thompson, passed away suddenly on July 22, 2026. He was born in Bridgeport on May 15, 1944, to the late Fred and Alice (Allen) Thompson and was a lifelong area resident.

Roy proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee during the Vietnam War Era. Following his military service, he began a career with the Stratford Police Department, where he served as an officer and later as a detective. After retiring from law enforcement, Roy continued his passion for creativity and design, first through his own home improvement business and later as a Kitchen Designer at Home Depot in Stratford, where he worked for more than 20 years. His friendly personality and genuine ability to connect with others made a lasting impression on customers and coworkers alike.

Known for his incredible wit, quick sense of humor, and easy charm, Roy had a way of making everyone feel welcome. He was actively involved with Stratford Baptist Church and the Stratford Veterans Museum. He found joy in visiting Walt Disney World, flying remote-controlled airplanes, operating his ham radio, and woodworking, especially cabinetry. Roy will be remembered for his kindness, laughter, and unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and community. His legacy of service and generosity will be treasured by all who knew him.

In addition to his beloved wife of 60 years, Roy is survived by his devoted children, Richard Thompson and Sharon Thompson; cherished grandchildren, Alan Burr IV and Shauna Burr; brothers, Fred Thompson and William Thompson; sister, Carol Hyndman; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Sandra Almeida.

Friends may call on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford. A prayer service will be held at 6:45 p.m., followed by military honors. A private burial service for the immediate family will be held at Union Cemetery in Stratford at a later date.
