Final Salute

Donald Vincent Seethaler, 94, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 9, 2026. He was born in Toledo, June 27, 1932, to Vincent C. Seethaler and Marion E. Hunter.

Don grew up in Toledo, where he attended Libbey High School and later graduated from the University of Toledo with a degree in finance.

At 18, Don enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country during the Korean War. He served as a Seabee in the Philippines and was honorably discharged after nearly four years of service. During his time in the Navy, he received the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.

After returning home, Don met Valerie Richards of Holland, Ohio. They married January 19, 1955, and welcomed three children, Jennie, Matt, and Dan. In 1961, the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona, for a new job opportunity, and there they welcomed their fourth child, Jon.

Don built a successful career as a financial controller for several large corporations. Outside of work, he enjoyed playing in a softball league and was an avid bowler and golfer. He loved spending time with his family, and they made many cherished memories on camping trips, vacations to Disneyland, and cross-country drives to visit family in Holland, Ohio.

Several years later, Don met Carolyn Montague, also from Holland, Ohio. They married June 21, 1981. Carolyn joined Don in Phoenix, where they built a wonderful life together filled with entertaining, traveling abroad, and exploring the country in their motorhome.

After retirement, Don and Carolyn left The Boulders in Carefree, Arizona, in 2005 and relocated to Findlay to be closer to Carolyn’s family. Don remained active in their church and enjoyed preserving memories of their many adventures, creating numerous CDs filled with photographs from their travels and experiences over the years.

Don never seemed quite ready to stop working. He continued selling insurance part-time and finally fully retired at 87.

Throughout his 94 years, Don lived a full and adventurous life. He loved his family and his wife dearly, was a devoted provider, and treasured the life he and Carolyn built together. He also had a special place in his heart for his beloved dog, Latte.

Don is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn Seethaler; his children, Ken and Jennie Harris, Matt Seethaler, Dan Seethaler and Lori Ray, and Jon and Sally Seethaler; and his stepchildren, Brett and Lorie Montague, LeeAnn and Tom Bird, and Jill and Troy Long.

He was preceded in death by his stepson, Todd Montague.

Don also leaves behind 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, along with extended family and friends who were blessed to know and love him.

Don will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his dedication to those he loved, and the countless stories and memories he created and preserved throughout his long and remarkable life.

Although he will be deeply missed, his family finds peace and comfort in knowing that Don’s earthly journey is complete and that he is now home with Jesus. They are grateful for the 94 years they were blessed to share with him and look forward with faith to the day they will see him again.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, August 21, 2026, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay.

In honor of his faithful service to his country and his years in the United States Navy: Fair winds and following seas, Don, until we meet again.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Don’s memory to a local animal shelter or animal rescue organization, honoring his lifelong love for animals.
