Mr. Lewis Seals

Lewis Seals, 100, a World War II veteran and longtime DC resident, died peacefully Aug. 9, 2026.

Born Oct. 2, 1925, in Sumter, S.C., Lewis served in the U.S. Navy Seabees in the South Pacific and was honorably discharged in 1945. He then worked at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital and drove a Washington taxi for over 72 years. Known for his wit, hard work and generosity, Lewis enjoyed reading, sports, and sharing his homemade lemonade.

He is survived by his son Bernard, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild.

Services: Viewing Aug. 31 at 11 a.m.; funeral at noon, Zion Baptist Church, 4850 Blagden Ave. NW. Interment Sept. 1 at 12:30 p.m. at Quantico National Cemetery.
