Dermot L. Sporbert, 78 of Pittsfield, passed away November 21, at Berkshire Medical Center. He was born on June 18, 1945 in Lancashire England to William and Bridget (Hanley) Sporbert both are deceased. As a child he and his siblings were raised by Gertrude and Raymond Knight of Pittsfield who are also deceased.

He was a graduate of Pittsfield High School and Berkshire Community College.

Mr. Sporbert was a Navy Seabee Veteran and enlisted right out of High School he went to Vietnam finished his tour of duty and re-enlisted again. When he safely came back home uninjured he began working for the Ford Company here in Pittsfield as a service manager. Later years he became a Police Officer for the City of Pittsfield until he retired! To continue his service of caring for people as a social worker was an Ombudsman for some of the local nursing homes until he retired from there. In everything he chose to do he took great pride in and always helping someone.

Dermot was member of the Pittsfield VFW and American Legion and spending a great deal of time volunteering for both! He was true American who believed in this Country and was willing to go the distance.

He is survived by his sister Fiona Kinnas and husband Tom of Dalton MA; His brother, Desmond and wife Wanda (Elsperger) Sporbert of Thompson, ND, and Kurt and Ginny (MacDonald) Rever of Derry NH.

He was estranged from his three children.

He was predeceased by his brother Lauri H. Sporbert in 1988. He leaves many nieces and nephews!

FUNERAL NOTICE: Gravesides services will be held Friday, December 1, 2023 at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial Donations May be payable to Elder Services and mailed to Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield MA 01201
