Final Salute

Edward John Oleniacz, age 97 of Brookline, PA, formerly of Lawrenceville, PA peacefully passed away on June 2, 2022. He was born on November 26, 1924. Ed was the son of the late Rudolph and Marcyanna Oleniacz, beloved husband of Elizabeth (Betty) Stec and loving father of Paul Oleniacz of Tulalip Washington. He is preceded in death by brothers Theodore and Rudolph, sisters Ann (John) Kapron, Adela (William)Deutsch, Helen (Elmer) Wolf. Brother-in-law of the late Mary (Raymond) Zapp and the late Ann (John) Dustovich and the late John Stec, Jr. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Edward was a three -year World War II veteran serving in the South Pacific as a U.S. Navy Seabee. He earned a B.A. degree in Art Education from Carnegie Tech, M.A. degree from the University of Pittsburgh, and attended Alfred University. Ed taught ceramics at Schenley High School for twenty-five years and 10 years at Brashear High School. He is a member of American Legion Post 540. Upon retirement, Ed served twenty years on the PFT Retirement Chapter Board.
Edward enjoyed many professional achievements in art and ceramics. In 1964, Stefan Lorant, a noted author commissioned Ed to paint an accurate portrayal of Charles Dicken’s 1842 visit to Pittsburgh, for his history of Pittsburgh book. He was a member and exhibitor with the Associated Artist of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Craftman’s Guild.
Edward was a life-long member and an active and dedicated officer on the council of St. Mary’s Holy Assumption Orthodox Church in the Southside.
He enjoyed reading, traveling, watching the Steelers but not as much as painting, drawing, making pottery and writing religious icons. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. Funeral arrangements by BEINHAUERS. Family and friends welcome at 2630 West Liberty Avenue, Dormont, PA 15216, on Sunday, June 5, 2022 from 5-8 PM with a Parastas service at 7:30 PM. Funeral services will be held on Monday June 6 at 10:00AM at Beinhauers with Internment following at the Deer Creek Cemetery, 902 Russellton Road, Cheswick, PA.
