Final Salute

Richard P. Lauer, affectionately known as Richie, a devoted partner, father, grandfather, great grandfather passed away peacefully on September 8, 2023, at the Brooklyn Veterans Hospital, due to Cancer. Born on November 18, 1946, in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, New York.

Richie was a generous, caring, loving man who loved to tell jokes and bring smiles to everyone around him, beloved by all, always ready to lend a helping hand. His jovial spirit was infectious, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was a passionate man who lived his life to the fullest, enriching the lives of those around him with his wisdom and humor.

Richie is survived by his long term girlfriend Mary, his son Raymond, daughter-in-law Joanne, grandchildren Raymond, Christina, Christopher and Nicole, great grandchildren Mason and Stefan, sister Dawn. Richie also had another family he loved they are his fellow Seabees and Veterans from the Brooklyn VA. His love for his family and friends was evident in his actions and sacrifices he has made to ensure their happiness and well being. He was a loyal friend, always ready to offer support or a kind word. His presence was a constant source of comfort and joy to those who knew him.

In his professional life, Richie was known for his diligence and determination. His strong work ethic was admired by his colleagues and served as an inspiration for many. He was a retiree manager with NYNEX and Time Warner. Despite his many accomplishments, he remained humble and grounded. He served as a member of the United States Navy Seabees and was a Combat Veteran of Vietnam 66-68.

Richie enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. He like to spend time taking his family out to eat, Wednesday morning breakfast with friends, monthly Swarm get togethers. He had many hobbies and interests like traveling across this country on his many Harleys and RV’s, traveled to many countries around the world, scuba diving, flying small planes, flying remote controlled aircraft’s, he also loved his toys, cars and Harley Davidsons. He was a big kid that never grew up but most of all he was a fighter he left this world fighting one hell of a fight and those that know him know he left on his terms.

Richie’s passing is a great loss to all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched, a testament to a life well-lived. His spirit, strength, and love for life will continue to inspire and guide us.

We mourn the loss of Richie, but we also celebrate his life, cherishing the memories and lessons he left behind. Rest in peace, Richie. Your legacy will forever remain in our hearts.
