Francis “Frank” Louis Konow

Port Monmouth – A quiet and gentle man of few words unless talking politics…

Francis L. Konow, known to friends and loved ones as “Frank”, age 76, of Port Monmouth, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2021 in Hackensack, NJ.

Frank was born on August 1, 1944 in Jersey City, NJ. He grew up in Rumson, NJ and was a graduate of Rumson Fair Haven High School. After high school graduation, Frank immediately enlisted in the US Navy, spending four years serving as a Navy Seabee, working as a construction equipment mechanic in Davisville, RI and Bainbridge, MD and as a naval reservist, honorably discharged in 1968.

Frank was also a lifelong resident of Barley Point Island, Rumson, NJ where he enjoyed his seasonal “Shangri-La” while boating, crabbing and jet-skiing, enjoying the Beach and relaxing with friends.

Frank established his personal business as the owner of Konow Construction in Middletown. Frank then built a successful career doing construction and carpentry for 28 years with Bell Labs/Lucent Technologies/ATT in Holmdel, NJ.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and brother. Frank was the first person you could call if you needed something fixed or built! He was a skilled carpenter who enjoyed working with his hands and his extensive tool collection. During retirement, Frank enjoyed gardening and was very proud of his delicious Jersey tomatoes as well as being an avid wine maker. For more than forty years, he was a dedicated volunteer fireman for the Port Monmouth Fire Company.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 54 years, Maggie Konow; son Frank L. Konow, wife Misty and grandson Jude of Rock Hill, SC; sister Marion Frazee and husband Michael, of Red Bank; niece Michelle Welsh and husband Michael, of Little Silver; nephew Michael Frazee and wife Stacy, of Middletown; and nephew Zach Konow and wife Amy of Wanamassa; and his extended family of brother-in-law Vincent Blasi and wife Angelica, of Toms River; sister-in-law Dawn Montecalvo and husband Rich of Naples, FL; sister-in-law Philomena Mills and husband David of Punta Gorda, FL; brother-law Neil Martin of Brick; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Francis “Frank” Konow and Frances Konow and brother, Louis Konow.

Visitation will be held at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Rd., Middletown, NJ from 4pm – 8pm on Tuesday, June 8th. Services will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 9th at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Port Monmouth Fire Co, Port Monmouth, NJ or to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Frank’s memory.
