Final Salute

Dr. Ellsworth Weatherby, III, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away peacefully surrounded by his three children Tuesday, May 17, 2022. Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Ellsworth Weatherby, Jr. and Anne Marjorie Grigg Weatherby of Oreland. PA.
Ted was raised in Oreland, PA where he graduated from Springfield Township High School in Erdenheim, PA in 1967. He attended the University of Maryland, graduating with high honors in civil engineering. He started his naval career at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine, earning his Doctor of Medicine in 1978. He went on to serve in the Navy as a Medical Officer with the Seabees. After completing his radiology residency in Oakland, CA, he moved to the Charleston Naval Hospital followed by the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. He was proud to have had Presidents, Ronald Reagan and George Bush, and Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor as patients. Ted retired as a Naval Commander in 1991 and became a partner in a radiology practice in Doylestown, PA.
He was a distinguished radiologist, a loving father, a caring friend who exhibited kindness, generosity, intelligence, and a propensity to create fun for all around him. He was a high energy person with a great sense of humor and a heart of gold.
Ted is survived by his ex-wife Cindi Weatherby; his two daughters Elizabeth Pierson (Brian) and Blair Medeo (Daniel); his son Ellsworth Weatherby, IV (Meredith); his two sisters Andrea White (Bill Boggan) and Robin Fisher (Budd); three grand-daughters (Emory, Elliotte, and Reese Pierson); two grandsons (Ellsworth Weatherby,V and Wescott Weatherby).
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Parkinson’s Foundation (www.parkinson.org). A Memorial Service and Celebration of Ted’s Life will take place on Saturday, May 21 at 2:00 p.m. at the French Huguenot Church (136 Church Street, Charleston, SC 29401).
