James Clifton Davis

James, 83, was a man with a heart of gold, defined by his love of family, patriotism, and caring for others. Born in Marlin, TX, he was raised in the United Methodist Church and attended University High School. In 1956, he enlisted in the US Navy, serving 20 years as a Seabee. He volunteered for Operation Deep Freeze III in Antarctica and was a combat veteran of seven campaigns in the Vietnam War. He earned the Navy Achievement Medal with combat valor device “V” and Vietnam Service Medal with a silver star, two bronze stars and Marine Corp device, among others. His service continued for 10 years in the USN Ready Reserves and as a civilian with the Navy Exchange and MWR for 27 years. James met his beloved wife Su Yueh Lin (Susie) while stationed in Taiwan. They married on February 17, 1968 and traveled the world with their three children, Ibe (Linda), Cindy, and Jason. Along the way they gained life-long friends who became family to them.He had a quirky sense of humor and varied interests: cooking, fishing, shooting, world events, reading westerns, sci-fi & thrillers, and spending time with family & friends. James took care of his extended family, loved his nephews and nieces as his own, and cherished his “critters.” He was the best of friends to those lucky to be in his life.James is preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Emma Lee Davis; brother, Jerden; and sister, Alice Graham. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Susie; brother, Stanford (Ross); sister-in-law, Edna; children Ibe (Linda), Cindy, and Jason and wife, Lisa; grandchildren, Haylee and Hannah; and great grandson, Ryker.Viewing & Committal Service with Military Honors will be held February 23, 2021 at El Camino Memorial Sorrento Valley and the Miramar National Cemetery.
