Final Salute

BELLEVILLE – Norman Oliver (Butch) Hanna, age 96, of Belleville, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024. He was born on Oct. 15, 1927, in Mount Horeb, the son of Adolph and Agnes (Ness) Hanna.

Norman attended the New Glarus High School and completed his GED in the U. S. Navy. He proudly served with the U.S. Navy Seabees following World War II until 1947. He returned home and began working on the family farm and started his construction career.

Norman was united in marriage to Rosemary Evans on June 16, 1951. He owned and operated the N.O. Hanna Siding Co. for many years, where he worked throughout Southern Wisconsin, Illinois and Missouri. Norman was also a produce farmer, raising tomatoes, cabbage and sweetcorn. Always known for his truck farm, he later raised and nurtured beautiful geraniums. He always wanted to keep busy and finally retired in his 80s.

In his retirement years, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling and spending time with family and friends. He especially enjoyed dining out. He prided himself with his culinary skills of rolling Lefse and baking Krumkake. Norman was very active in the community. He was a member of Primrose Lutheran Church, and a member of the New Glarus American Legion (Veterans Strengthening Americans), plus he supported many non-profit organizations and community events.

Norman is survived by his daughters, Renee Joette (Dale) Ketelboeter and Suzanne (John) Klumb; grandchildren, Nathan (Cheyenne) Klumb, Paul (Cassy) Klumb, Zachary (Hannah) Ketelboeter and Jeremy Ketelboeter; great-grandchildren, Braylon, Jemah, Gunner, Gracie, Morgan, Madex, Carson James (CJ), Sully and Kassidy; sister-in-law, Barbara Hanna; and niece, Sonja Galovics.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rosemary; brother, Russell Hanna; and sisters, Mae (Emery) Kahl and June (Jim) Stanton.

A luncheon for family and friends to share memories will be held early this summer.

Memorials may be gifted in Norman’s name to Primrose Lutheran Church.
