PO2/BU2
Francis J. Leverone Jr., age 79, of Raynham, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton.
Born in Middleboro, Massachusetts, Francis was the beloved son of the late Francis J. Leverone Sr. and Genevieve (Woods) Leverone. He was raised in the area and attended Taunton Vocational High School, where he developed the skills and strong work ethic that would serve him throughout his life. Francis had a heart of gold and was always there to help anyone in need, no matter what the situation was.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Francis honorably served his country as a Navy Seabee from 1973 until his retirement in 1996. His years of military service were a tremendous source of pride, and the values of dedication, perseverance, and service to others remained with him throughout his life.
A man of remarkable talent and determination, Francis was truly a jack of all trades. Whether working with machinery, building something with his hands, or finding a solution to a difficult problem, there seemed to be little he could not accomplish. Throughout his working years, he was employed as an oil burner technician, a machinist for D & D Machine and worked in the Cemetery Dept for the Town of Raynham. He also pursued his entrepreneurial spirit through his own landscaping business, “The Lawn Manicurist”, where he took great pride in his work. Francis ended his career by working part time for Bracks for several years.
Francis was happiest when keeping busy and putting his many talents to good use. He had a special love for woodworking and enjoyed creating things with his hands. He could often be found working on lawn mowers, tackling a new project, or putting together a challenging puzzle. In his younger years, he had a passion for motorcycles and fast cars, interests that reflected his adventurous spirit and appreciation for all things mechanical.
Beyond his work and hobbies, Francis believed in giving back to his community. He generously volunteered his time at the Naval Museum in Rhode Island, where he could remain connected to the military heritage he held so dear.
Above all, Francis was a devoted family man whose life was defined by hard work, loyalty, and a willingness to lend a helping hand. He will be remembered for his resourcefulness, his independent spirit, and the pride he took in everything he did. His legacy lives on not only through the many things he built and accomplished, but also through the countless memories he leaves with those who knew and loved him.
Francis leaves behind his beloved wife, Dorilda (Jefferson) Leverone; his sons, James Leverone and Bryan Nelson; his daughter, Michelle Nelson; and his sister, Linda Hightower. He was also the cherished grandfather of five grandchildren and great-grandfather of 2 great-grandchildren. He leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts. In addition to his parents, Francis was predeceased by his sister, Adelaide Mercier.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on, Friday, November 6, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, at the Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, Taunton, Massachusetts. Military honors will be rendered at 5:45 PM at the funeral home in grateful recognition of Francis’s honorable and dedicated service to his country.
