Walter W. Laabs Jr.
July 24, 1938 – November 30, 2023
Walter W. Laabs Jr., a cherished family man and respected professional in the field of transportation engineering, passed away on November 30, 2023, in Windsor, California. Born on July 24, 1938, in San Francisco, Walter’s life was one marked by dedication, service, and love.

Walter’s academic journey led him to the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Transportation Engineering. His illustrious career spanned several key positions, including roles with SF Transportation, County of Sonoma, private consulting firms, and then his own consulting firm, culminating in his retirement in 2010.

His commitment to service extended beyond his professional life, as Walter proudly served in the US Navy Reserve,CEC, retiring as a Commander. This experience shaped him with a sense of discipline and honor that he carried into all aspects of his life.

Walter had a unique talent for capturing and cherishing memories. He was passionate about making memory videos of vacations and family events, creating a treasure trove of moments that his family will hold dear forever. His love for the Bay Area sports teams – the Giants, 49ers, Warriors, and the Cal Bears of which he had season tickets to. He also gave many years of dedicated service to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Windsor, CA.

He met his beloved wife, Kathy in 1975 while working together. Their partnership blossomed into a beautiful marriage of 46 years, filled with love, understanding, and mutual respect.

Walter will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate to have known him. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Laabs; his sons, Donald Laabs (wife Lorin) and David Laabs (Lola); his cherished grandchildren, Allie Laabs (wife Cailin), Daniel Laabs (fiancé Melissa), Anna Lark McLaren (husband James), and Raine Laabs; and his great-granddaughter, Fiona Laabs. He also leaves behind his sisters, Barbara Tellez and Kathy Tellez, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends who all felt the warmth of his kind spirit.

Family and Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Friday, December 15, 2023, at 11 a.m., Windsor Healdsburg Mortuary, 9660 Old Redwood Hwy. in Windsor, CA.
