George Michael Saliba, Jr. passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in Dothan, AL surrounded by his family and friends. Mike was born in Americus to the late George Michael Saliba, Sr. and Sara Clark Saliba. He was a proud graduate of Americus High School. He joined the United States Navy shortly after graduation and became a SeaBee. He then signed on for a career as a locomotive engineer. In his spare time, Mike volunteered as a fireman for Sumter County Fire Department. Upon his retirement from the railroad, he became a full-time fireman, serving his community as a local hero. Mike married his sweetheart, Jo Ann McGlamery, in May of 1976. They had a loving marriage for over 48 years. Together they had two beautiful daughters, Mendy Saliba Thomas (Russell, Jr.) of Americus and Leigh Ann Saliba Lamb of Cordele. They raised their girls on Lake Blackshear, the place their love originated. Along with his wife and daughters, Mike is survived by his amazing grandchildren, Lainie Saliba, Mary Charlotte Saliba and Logan Lamb, as well as his two sisters, a brother, uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces. Mike will be missed by everyone he touched in his life. He was a great man with a gentle kind of a soul. He can rest in peace knowing he did exactly what he intended to do. He loved his family and friends, he served his country and his community and he lived with the purpose of making life better for everyone fortunate enough to know him. A celebration of life, with full military honors and the fireman’s last call, will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2025 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 noon.
