It is with great sorrow that we announce that Steve passed away Saturday, Nov 29, 2025 at Northwestern Hospital in McHenry. Most of his 83 years were spent in McHenry having graduated from McHenry Community High School in 1960. Steve was a graduate of Ellis Business School in Elgin. He enlisted in the Navy in 1965 and served 2 tours of duty in Vietnam as a Navy Seabee. Upon his return in 1968 from active duty he graduated from Brooks Institute of Photography in Montecito, CA. In 1971, he and his wife the former Nancy J. Fischer, returned to McHenry. Nancy, daughter of Peter and Clarice “Pat” (McMahon) Fischer, was Steve’s classmate all through school. They married September 30, 1967 in Westerly, R.I.. Their daughter, Leigh A. was born september 5, 1977.
Steve was active in the McHenry Jaycees and later in the Johnsburg V.F.W. He enjoyed photography professionally and personally as a member of the McHenry County Camera Club. Woodworking, bike riding, and kayaking were other favorite activities. As 58 married years can attest to, Steve was a beloved husband, father, brother, friend, citizen and neighbor. This little area of the world is better because of him.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Veterinarian Dr.Howard S. Fike and mother, Cynthia (McNeil) Fike and his niece Cathy Cameron and nephew, Matthew Moscinski.
Survivors include his wife Nancy and daughter Leigh, his sister Penelope Cameron, her husband Ken; her niece Beth Pearson and her husband Bob, their children and sister Heather (Fike) Moscinski and her son Michael.
A celebration of Steve’s life will be held Friday, December 19, 2025 at Colonial Funeral Home in McHenry from 3PM to 7PM.
