James Sherlock, 77, of Newaygo, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2026. He was born on July 18, 1948, in Reed City, the son of Louis and Alta (Stecher) Sherlock.
James graduated from Reed City High School and was united in marriage to his wife and best friend, Lorraine Maurer. Together they shared 52 years of marriage, raised four children, and created countless cherished memories.
In his younger years, James proudly served in the United States Navy as a Seabee. He later volunteered as a firefighter and, in later years, could often be found tending to his garden during the summer months. He loved growing vegetables, watching westerns, and reading his Bible. James was known as a dedicated, loyal, and hardworking man who was always willing to help others.
He faithfully served as a trustee at Luther Bible Chapel in Newaygo, where faith and family meant everything to him. James worked as a concrete carpenter, and even after long days and early mornings, he always made time for his family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine; children, Alan Sherlock, Alana Sherlock, Louis (Jessi) Sherlock, and Maryalice (Cullin) Burns; grandchildren, Jadynn, Kenzie, Mason, Luci, Morgan, Nora, Waverly, and Owen; siblings, Theresa, Walt, Shirley, Alice, and Mary; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Marge.
