Steven Don Frick was born on March 16, 1956, in Estherville, IA. He was the son of Russell and Pearl (Nissen) Frick. Steve attended Armstrong public schools and graduated from Armstrong High School in 1974.

After high school, Steve enlisted in the Navy on January 28, 1976, where he served with the Seabee’s as a heavy equipment operator. He achieved the rank of EO3 before earning his honorable discharge on September 8, 1978.

After returning from the service, Steve went to work in Ft. Dodge, IA, for Rohlin Construction before owning and operating S&J Excavating in Fairmont in 1993. Steve was a former member of the Elk’s Lodge in Estherville as well as being a member of the American Legion.

Steve loved his work. He loved fishing but just wasn’t able to do it much. His dedication to his work took priority. He also loved taking care of his yard as well as helping other people with their yards. Steve was most proud of being a veteran.

Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Jan of rural Fairmont; stepchildren, Kevin Larson of Swea City, IA, and Cynthia Kay Lafortune of Rapid City, SD; siblings, Duane Frick of Armstrong, IA, Sally (Greg) Bratland of Salem, OR, and Penny (Bruce) Guse of Ringsted, IA; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews who were all very special to Steve.

Along with his parents, Russell and Pearl Frick, Steve was preceded in death by his brother, Dwight Frick; and parents-in-law, Elroy and Erma Pygman.
