Final Salute

Floyd Vester Skipper, 89, of McLean, Texas passed away Friday, September 11, 2026, in McLean.

Services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, September 15, 2026, in the McLean Methodist Church with Rev. Thacker Haynes, officiating. Burial will follow in Alanreed Cemetery in Alanreed.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 4:00-6:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the care of Robertson Funeral Directors of McLean.

Floyd was born on April 30, 1937, in Wellington, TX to Charles Herman Skipper and Jesse Evalee Houston.

He enlisted in the US Army alongside his twin brother Lloyd on November 1959, where he received his GED and served for three years.

On December 13th, 1961, Floyd married the love of his life Nancy Patterson when she was 16. He was sent to Thule, Greenland, the top of the world, for a year before coming back to his new wife.

He was a proud Veteran; he served his 3 years in the Army and 29 years in the Navy Seabee Reserves retiring as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. He specialized in heavy equipment operating in the military and his everyday life. He was the Roberts & Hemphill County foreman for several years, the rest of his time was spent on his farm planting crops and raising cattle. He sure loved his cows!!

Floyd loved to cowboy. He worked on several ranches, including Johnson Ranch in Texas & Oklahoma for many years. He loved John Wayne Movies or any Western, gambling, and going to Mclean sporting events, especially when Trent, Ashley or Bryce were playing.

Floyd is preceded in death by his father, mother, 1 older brother (Billy Joe Sr.), his twin brother (Lloyd), & his sister (Sandra).

Survivors include: His wife of 65 years Nancy Skipper of McLean, 2 daughters Leslie Darsey of Alanreed & Carla Hembree of McLean, his half brother Pete Skipper of Kansas. 1 grandson Trent Darsey & Fiancé Rudy. 1 granddaughter Ashley DeMots & Husband Mason. 1 great grandson Bryce Aiden Darsey. And lots of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
