Final Salute

Raised in Lynnfield and longtime resident of Acton and later of Medford, Allan was the beloved son of the late Ernest C. and Marion E. (Tuck) Peeke and treasured husband of Joan M. (Crowley) Peeke.

He leaves behind two children, Gregory A. Peeke (Kerri Peeke) and Laura J. Peeke (Andrew Berryman), and four grandsons: Connor, Myles, and Ronan Peeke, and Maxwell Berryman. He has been deeply loved by his brothers, sisters, and their spouses, John Crowley (Barbara Crowley), Barbara Breen (Richard Breen), James Crowley, Dennis Crowley, Leo Crowley (Isabel Crowley), Edward Crowley (Andrea Crowley), Dianne Cote(Leo Cote), Robert Peeke, Douglas Peeke (Martha Peeke), and Nancy Swasey (Bob Swasey), and all of their children.

Allan was the ultimate caregiver. He navigated his wife Joan’s long cancer journey with grace and dedication. He would do anything for his wife, always. She was his light. Married for 36 years following his service in Vietnam to Joan’s passing, their connection is eternal.

Allan provided unconditional love and support to his children, family, and friends. He never missed a single one of his son’s football games, even when they were over six hours away and the same-day journey was difficult. He spent weekends helping his daughter fix up her Cape house, voluntarily cleaning out the mouse-ridden shed so she wouldn’t have to (and because it needed to be done). His jokes, silliness, and easy humor cultivated special connections with his grandsons. More like a grandpa than a great uncle to many nieces’ and nephews’ kids, he would often show up with the perfect gift for them no matter the age. Friends and family often benefited from Allan’s help with building a deck, removing a wall or laying a floor; spoils of his generosity and the skills he learned as a Navy SeaBee.  Always a kind and concerned neighbor, Allan would snow-blow the driveways for those who needed help and the sidewalks for everyone on his street. His yard was an immaculate source of pride and innovation that was functional, inviting, and featured beautiful flowers. He and Joan hosted many holidays and celebrations at their home in Acton, always with an open door, creating warm, formative memories that became part of the fabric of their extended family.

Joy exuded from Allan when he listened to music, whether at a live concert, driving in his convertible with the top down, or blaring scenes from Top Gun on his prized surround sound system. Many smiles were had at the beach, playing horseshoes, sitting on a boat, and digging ditches for kids with his army shovel. A devout Patriots fan and season ticket holder for many years, he watched his team play in all six “home” stadiums, including his alma mater of Boston University. In later years, golf and bowling became sweet escapes and a source of good times with friends. He never met an ice cream he didn’t devour.

A prayer service will be held at the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway(Powder House Square), Somerville, on Friday, July 24th, at 11:00 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, July 23rd, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Services will conclude with interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Allan’s memory to the Boys &Girls Clubs of Boston.
