David B. O’Donnell, known to all as “OD,” of Olcott, NY, entered into rest at home on Wednesday, February 24, 2021. He was born in Lockport, NY, on May 22, 1942, raised by his grandparents, Georgie and Daniel O’Donnell, Sr., when at the age of 20, he became a Seabee in the US Navy serving from 1962-1969.
After the Navy, OD worked for Hank Brummer Construction, where he helped build Newfane Pro-Am in Newfane, NY. He moved on to become their bar manager until they closed in 2019. Quality control was his specialty always ensuring your glass was full (including his own).
To know OD was to love him. He was a gentle giant known for his life stories and unwavering commitment and love for golf with his buddies at Willowbrook GC, golf trips to Cross Creek, ice fishing in Canada with Cal’s Crew, hunting (so they say) in Eldred, PA, playing cards and entertaining patrons at the bar, and most recently spending our inheritance at the casino. His personality was unmatched and will be greatly missed by all.
OD was predeceased by his brother, Joe O’Donnell III of Lockport, NY; and his sister, Nancy Austin of Eldred, PA. He is survived by his beloved partner of 37 years, Barb McKay; daughter, Heather Pollock (Joe Abt); and second father to Rusty (Wendy) McKay, Annette McKay, and Beverly Landrigan; dear cousin to Nancy Jean Sprung-Hausman; and grandfather to Jared Abt and “Buckz” to Shane, Jenelle, Jessica, Caitlin and Nathan.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 28th from 1 PM to 4 PM at Rutland Corwin Funeral Home, Inc, Newfane, NY, with Military Honors immediately after. In lieu of flowers, donations to Olcott Fire Company are appreciated. Please visit www.rutland-corwin.com
