Final Salute

OGDENSBURG — A Celebration of Life for David F. George, 75, of Ogdensburg, will be held on Friday, August 7th, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Ogdensburg Moose Lodge.

Mr. George passed away peacefully on Friday, July 10, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley. Arrangements are under the direction of Frary Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

He is survived by his partner, Robin Tulip of Ogdensburg; his daughter, Hillary (Brian) Mitchell of Ogdensburg; his sister, Diane “Rita” Johnson of Ogdensburg; and his brother-in-law and best friend, Ronald Johnson. He is also survived by his bonus daughter, Erin (Michael) Ferris; his granddaughter, Sadie Mitchell; and his bonus grandchildren, whom he lovingly referred to as his “Grand Creeps”: Gracelind, Greta, and Graeah Ferris, Cydnee Mee, Logan Gaylord, MaCaylee Williams, and Hayden Summers; as well as three bonus great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory his nieces, Denise Bertrand of Ogdensburg and Kim McPherson of Syracuse; and his nephews, Buck Johnson of Ogdensburg and Rob McPherson of Florida.

He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara McPherson; his bonus daughters, Tonia Carr and Brooke Williams; and a bonus granddaughter, Morgan Gagnon.

David F. George was born on June 25, 1951, in Ogdensburg, NY, the son of the late Francis and Marion (Smith) George. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1969 and went on to enlist in the United States Navy from 1972 to 1974, proudly serving with the Seabees stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Following his honorable discharge, he continued his education at Delhi University and graduated from Indiana University. A previous marriage to the former Kathy Hand ended in divorce, but they remained friends.

David began his career as the Parks and Recreation Director for Vincennes, Indiana. He later relocated closer to home, serving as the Director of Parks and Recreation for the Village of Canton. He ultimately finished his career as a Recreational Therapist for the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center in Ogdensburg, where he worked until his retirement.

An avid sports fan, David passionately cheered for the New York Yankees, New York Giants, and the Indiana Hoosiers. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, ice fishing, and took up golfing in his later years. One of his greatest joys was playing “school bus driver” to his Grand Creeps, taking them to the library, and teaching them how to swim and ride their bikes.

Deeply committed to his community, Dave gave back as an assistant coach for the Ogdensburg Free Academy Varsity Football Team and Ogdensburg Minor Hockey. He was also instrumental in establishing the J.C. Hockey Rink on Park Street. He was a Past Exalted Ruler of the Ogdensburg Elks Lodge and a member of both the AMVETS and the Ogdensburg Moose Lodge.
