Final Salute

Donald “Don” Eugene Peterson, 102 years old, of Jackson, Michigan, passed away peacefully in his sleep after a short illness on August 14, 2026 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born April 16, 1924 in Flint, Michigan to Julius Chris Peterson and Muriel (Hall) Peterson.
Don was a graduate of Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois and Dallas Theological Seminary with his Master’s Degree. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy Seabees from January 29, 1943 until October 11, 1946. He ministered at 4 churches for over 30 years and served as an interim pastor and pulpit supply for multiple churches in the Jackson, Michigan area.
He was married to the love of his life for 66 years, Marilee June (Whiting) Peterson until her passing, August 20, 2015.
Don is survived by his children, Donna Marie (Peterson) Lotter; Kristine Lee (Peterson) and her spouse, Robert Ragain; Ruth Emily (Peterson) and her spouse, Darrell Payne; 8 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren, and special friend, Gilbert Schleweis.
Don loved walking, regular exercise, fishing, water sports, playing games, doing crossword puzzles, reading his Bible, praying for many friends and relatives, witnessing to others about Christ, spending time with family, and cultivating raspberries. He was an active member of Independent Fundamental Bible Churches of America (IFCA), started a Jackson Prison ministry, and was a founding board member of Jackson Christian Schools.
He is preceded in death by his siblings, Leroy Peterson; Roger Peterson; Margaret (Peterson) Childers; and Erma (Peterson) Collins.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026 at Watson Funeral Chapel – 2590 Spring Arbor Road, Jackson from 4:00-7:00pm. The Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026 with visitation beginning at 10:00am until the time of service at 11:00am at Vandercook Baptist Church – 703 East McDevitt, Jackson, Michigan with a luncheon following.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his honor to Vandercook Baptist Church Mission Fund.
