WEAVERVILLE – Frederick “Fred” Walter Clauhs, aged 91, of Weaverville, peacefully joined his Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
Born on April 24, 1935, in Philadelphia, PA, Fred proudly served as a “Seabee” with the United States Navy during Operation Deep Freeze in Antarctica. Following his service, he moved to Weaverville, where he founded Weaverville Plumbing Company in 1967. Fred enjoyed fishing, cherished time with family at the Isle of Palms, people watching, and immersing himself in historical novels and WWII history.
He was the beloved son of the late Frederick A. and Margaret Stringman Clauhs, and was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Kahl, and grandson, Brandon Phillips.
Fred is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Marie Mackey Clauhs; loving children, daughters, Laurie Jordan (David), and Margaret Gaddy (Bennie); sons, Freddie Clauhs (Lisa), Paul Clauhs, and Bobby Clauhs (Patty). He also leaves behind his sister, Louise Kahl, and grandchildren and great grandchildren, Frederick, Megan, Kylie, Abigail, Alyssa, Austin, Ashley, McKenzie, Remington, Mackey, Daniel, Nathan, Jonathan, Savannah, Niam, Neel, August, Parker, Isabel, Robbie, and Waylon.
Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at New Bridge Baptist Church, 199 Elkwood Ave., Asheville, officiated by Reverends Brian Buckner and Rusty Harper. Fred will be laid to rest in the Veterans section of West Memorial Park, 40 Roberts St., Weaverville.
The family will welcome friends on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville.
