Final Salute

George W. Lane, 85, of Dandridge, Tennessee, formerly of Hampton Bays, New York, passed away Sunday, August 6, with his family by his side.
Born 1938 in Babylon, New York, he was the son of George W. and Helen (Stalter) Lane. He joined the Navy at age 16, and proudly served his country as a Seabee. Following in the footsteps of his father, Mr. Lane owned and operated Lane Crane Repair and was a well-respected member of the construction industry and was known as one of the top diesel mechanics in the country.
Mr. Lane was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. Predeceased by his wife of 59 years Jane (Scharp), two infant sons, and his sister Georgia, he is survived by his three daughters, Jessica (Steve) Jaimaine (Robert) and Jeanette (Fred); grandchildren William, Max, Noah, and Joshua Gembenski; Lane and Bryce Rommel; Jasmine Kilmer, and Kinzie Talarico; great-grandchildren Sophia and Alex McNamara and Evelyn Raybourn; and sister Roberta Zeltmann.
He was man who was always willing to help others and share his broad spectrum of knowledge, and had an innate ability to befriend people at the drop of a hat. He will be remembered for his ability to do anything he set his mind to, his love of animals, motorcycles, boats, and engines, and his dedication to his family and friends. He touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed. Interment will be in Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, New York.
