James Curtis Detwiler, 75, of Upper Pottsgrove Township, PA, passed away on April 10, 2025, at Reading Hospital. Born in Parker Ford, PA, on May 5, 1949, Jim was the son of the late Paul K. Detwiler and Helen L. (Rohn) Detwiler.
Jim graduated from Owen J. Roberts High School and proudly served in the United States Navy as a Seabee until his honorable discharge in 1971. Following his military service, he began a long and dedicated career as a truck driver, working both over the road and locally for Wampler-Longacre and Reading Site Contractors until his retirement in 2021.
He was a devoted member of the Lower Pottsgrove Sportsman’s Association and Shepherd of the Hills Calvary Chapel in Bechtelsville, PA, where he faithfully attended and served. Above all, Jim cherished spending time with his family, who meant the world to him.
Jim is lovingly remembered by his children, Brenda (Richard) Bearden, James (Jennifer) Detwiler, and Curtis Detwiler; his stepsons, Timothy (Victoria) Bieber and Thomas (Laura) Wolfe; his grandchildren, Taylor, Richard, Jackson, and Caroline; his step-grandchildren, Emma, Gwen, Aiyana, Lillian, and Thomas; and his siblings, David (Carlene) Detwiler, Anne Eagle, Jane Detwiler, and Jay Scott (Victoria) Detwiler.
In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his brothers-in-law, Lloyd Eagle and Clem Gavenas.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Shepherd of the Hills Calvary Chapel, 527 Hoffmansville Rd., Bechtelsville, PA 19505. The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., with inurnment and military honors to follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project.
