Mr. James Edward Cox Jr.

Date of birth 03/09/1946
Date of passing 06/07/2026

James Edward Cox Jr., 80, of Bayboro, North Carolina crossed over the bar, on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Carolina East Medical Center.

James was born on March 9, 1946, in Conway, South Carolina, to the late James Edward Cox Sr. and Lois Cox. James AKA “Bossman” was a unique man. Upon completing his education, he worked as an engineer for the U.S. government. At the end of 1966 he would be called to serve his country. He was placed in the Navy Seabees where he found himself working behind enemy lines in North Vietnam destroying bridges. There he would receive the bronze star, purple heart, and many other decorations.

Upon returning home he would continue his passion in aviation with talents to fly anything with wings. Jim also had a dream to build his own sailboat and sail the east coast and the Caribbean. He would meet the love of his life Marcia Rose and Gypsy Rose was built. Together they would live aboard and sail for 15 years. During that time, they worked with renowned sculptor Randolph Johnston pouring bronze statues some of which are at the Vatican and the Bahamian capitol.

He would eventually settle in Pamlico County, which he grew to love. Over the years Jim would touch many lives providing knowledge and help in any way. He always based his life on words his mother gave him early, always do the right thing and you will be okay. This he did.

Special thanks to Jennifer Baker who gave him special care and also to Darlene, Jamie, and Kelly. To the doctors and nurses of Carolina East we thank you for the kindness and care you showed.

Those left to treasure his memory are his two sisters, Suzanne Isola and Marilyn Cherrett; sisters in law, Janis Burger and Janet Krause; and nephew, Travis Krause.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Marcia Rose Burger.

At Jim’s request there will be no funeral or memorial services.

Fair winds and following seas, my friend.
