Mr. John Richard Snyder

John Richard Snyder of East Greenbush NY, passed peacefully, surrounded by his loving family

in the early morning of August 15, 2026.

Born and raised in Dingmans Ferry, Pennsylvania, to the late John Leonard Snyder and Ruth (VanSant) Snyder.

He had a love for hunting and fishing, especially with his closest friend, Moses Sebring.

A U.S. Navy veteran, John served as Seabee, taking his family craft as stone mason and putting his skills to use while stationed in various locations including Bermuda, Cuba and Antarctica. He truly embodied the moto, “Seabees Can Do!”

For 30 years, John was a forest fire specialist supervisor for the Pennsylvania Dept. of Conservation & Natural Resources, and well-known to most, as Smokey Bear and always reachable through his C.B. Handle, W-14.

He was a member of the Delaware Township and Bushkill Volunteer Fire Departments.

Survivors include four Daughters; Johnna (Joseph Sr.) Eurich of East Greenbush, NY, Laura (James) Franks of Greentown, PA, Kathleen (James)Harris of Bassett, VA, and Jenifer (Marc)Feinberg of Columbia SC.

Grandchildren; Christopher (Rena) Eurich, Elizabeth Smith, Jacqueline Smith, Joseph Eurich Jr, Johnathan Eurich,

Joshua (Coit)Shephard, Sarah (Michael Jr.) Williams, and James Franks Jr.

Great Grandchildren; Greysen Eurich and Michael Williams III.

And Many nieces and nephews, who adoringly referred to him as their ‘Uncle Richie’.

He was predeceased by wife of 46 years, Carol (Luckey) Snyder;

His sister, Barbara Herman; and granddaughter Aubrey Lorraine Eurich .

Known for his gentle nature, tireless work ethic, and kind heart, John touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed.

Graveside ceremony and burial will take place in Delaware Cemetery in Dingmans Ferry, PA at a later date. Contributions in John’s memory may be made to The Volunteer Fire Dept. of your choosing or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
