Kenneth J. Lenseth Obituary
Kenneth J. Lenseth, 84, of Voorheesville, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at Gladeview Nursing Home, Old Saybrook, Conn., with daughter Mary at his side after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.
Ken was born on January 3, 1934, in Staten island, son of the late Louis and Frances (Connor) Lenseth. Ken, his parents and 3 brothers, Richard, Arthur and Robert, moved to Albany area in 1949.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War in the Seabees, where he became an electrical specialist working at the Guam and Alaskan Island’s Naval bases.
When Ken returned to the Albany area, he became a lineman for the telephone company and then an electrician for the Watervliet Arsenal and Electrical Union.
In May of 1958, Ken married Bernice E. Schaefer and started a family. Ken enjoyed his family and spent many weekends camping in the Adirondacks. Ken, Bernice and their children, Kenny, Mary and Gerry, experienced many new adventures, especially a family camping trip across Canada, Mexico and the U.S. He worked with his father and brothers to build the Helderberg Family Campground and Cross-Country Ski Area up on their family land. Ken and Bernice’s dreams to spend retirement traveling was shattered when Bernice was lost to cancer in 1988.
When Ken met Connie Fennelly, she lifted his spirits and they began traveling to such places as Paris, South America, Hawaii, the Panama Canal, as well as many enjoyable trips with his grown children and special times with Connie’s children. Alzheimer’s started to take its effect on Ken in 2000; it has been a hard battle. In the end, Ken’s brain was donated for Alzheimer’s Research at the Yale School of Pathology, New Haven, Conn., so they and others can gain a better understanding on how to prevent this devastating disease.
Ken was predeceased by his beloved wife, Bernice; son, Arthur; daughter, Sharon; brother, Arthur; and his parents.
Ken is survived by his endeared companion, Connie Fennelly; brothers, Richard Lenseth and Robert (Susan) Lenseth; daughter, Mary Rita (Rick) Voigt; sons, Kenneth P. (Maria) Lenseth and Gerald Lenseth; granddaughters, Erin (Steve) Lamica, Jamie Lenseth and Dana (Paul) Moore; great-grandson, Jordan Trembley; and great-granddaughter, Emma Moore; along with many nieces, nephews, and Connie’s children.
