THIEBAUD, Medill P. Passed away at his home in Oakmont, July 1, 2001. Medill was born in 1908 in Waterbury, CT and moved to California with his family in 1927. He attended the University of California College of Engineering and worked for the State Division of Highways during the summers. He joined the State full time after earning his degree in 1935. He spent 4 1/2 years with the Navy Civil Engineer Corps during World War II, two years of that time with the Seabees in the Pacific Theater. In 1947 he was engineer in charge of construction of Rector Dam in Napa County which was, at that time the largest state water project ever undertaken. Medill supervised a number of engineering studies leading to the preparation of the California Water Plan and eventually became chief of the Water Resources’ Division of Right of Way Acquisition. He retired from the State in 1963 and kept active in private consulting work. He and his wife Mary, who passed away earlier this year, had lived in Santa Rosa since 1968. Medill was associated with a number of organizations throughout his long life, including the Elks, Toastmasters, and the SIRS. “He will be missed by all who knew him.” LAFFERTY & SMITH COLONIAL CHAPEL
