Robert “Bob” John Walters Obituary

Services for Robert “Bob” John Walters, 92 of Balaton will take place at a later date.

He died Saturday, April 18, 2020, at Tracy Sanford hospital.

He was born July 24, 1927, in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Bob and Beva Darlene Fuhrmann were married March 26, 1950. They were married over 70 years.

They have one daughter, Peggy (and Sam) Tutt. They have five grandchildren, Marc (and Robin) Tutt, Wade Tutt, Ryan Tutt, Dan (and Chelsy) Tutt and Eric Tutt. They have four great-grandchildren, Samantha Tutt, Drake Tutt, Avery Tutt and Lainey Tutt. Bob is survived by his sister Rosemary (Jean) Adams. He was preceded in death by his brother Richard “Dick” Walters and his parents George and Anna Walters.

Bob was in the Navy Seabees (Naval Construction Battalions) during WWII where he helped build island airfields and other projects. He was a member of the Balaton American Legion for 70 years.

Bob and Beva enjoyed fishing. They fished Big Pine Lake at Perham for many years. They also fished many of the area lakes. They were known as the Rapala “experts.”

Bob was a house, bridge and commercial painter for close to 50 years. He painted many of the houses in Balaton. When he retired, he spent many hours in his shop building wooden model tractors, trucks and other farm equipment. He also did some painting, repair work and anything that needed building or fixing for others. Bob enjoyed the outdoors and wildlife. He helped plant many trees with Sam, Sam’s dad Fred, and the boys. Bob and Fred went on several trips around the area when Fred could no longer drive.

In recent years Bob grew milkweed plants in his yard so he could raise Monarch butterflies and release them.

Bob’s shop was heated with wood, and the city of Balaton workers would often drop off extra tree limbs for him to burn during the winter. Other people also provided wood for him to burn.

Once a year, Bob, Beva, Peggy and Sam would take a surprise trip to various places in Minnesota and other states. Each place was different.

Bob will be greatly missed by his wife, daughter and family.
