Final Salute

Retired Navy Petty Officer Carlos Johnson served his country with exceptional courage, discipline, and honor. A combat veteran, he exemplified unwavering dedication to mission and service, embodying the highest traditions of the United States Navy and the Department of Defense.

During his distinguished career, Petty Officer Johnson earned numerous awards, including: Army Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Superior Unit Commendation, Navy “E” Ribbon and five Good Conduct Medals.

His service in global operations was further recognized with: National Defense Service Medal (two awards), Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.

He proudly qualified as a NATO Expeditionary Warfare Specialist and an Enlisted Seabee Combat Warfare Specialist, reflecting his operational expertise, resilience, and leadership. Committed to lifelong learning, he earned a Master of Business Administration from Strayer University and was pursuing a Doctor of Business Administration degree.

Carlos Johnson was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin Johnson; his mother, Marion Johnson; three brothers, Kermit Johnson, Benjamin C. Johnson, and Timothy Johnson; and his sister, Cynthia Johnson Byrd.

Carlos Johnson is lovingly remembered by his brother, Antonio “AJ” Johnson; sisters: Maurissa Johnson, Marcelle Johnson, Charmin Davis and Jewel Taylor; nephews, Dionco Byrd (Leticia Byrd), Joseph “Joe” Byrd, Marcus Johnson, Monrial Crews, Jordan Johnson, Messiah Johnson, Bryson Johnson, Amir Dickerson, Adrian Davis and Aaron Davis; nieces, Monique Garnett, Wanda Garnett, Keyana Ford (Fannie Ford), Keisha Johnson, Tiffany Byrd, Brittney Winston, Chanel Winston, Jenell Hobbs, Jada Byrd, Andrea Davis and Amia Davis devoted cousins, Lori Matthews Carpenter, Tracy Mason, Alan Mason, Carlton Mason, Al Mason, Gary Mason, Jeffrey Mason, Felicia Mason, Maryland Bay and West Serena Mason; sisters-in-law, Freda Johnson and Frances Garnett; brothers-in-law, Joseph Choppa Byrd and Michael Davis; life-long friends, Dante Parham, Cazell Hines, Christopher Mallory, Pamela Johnson, Kim Gillam, Derwin Moore, Robert Bell Jr., Auntwanette Reaves, Leslie Wells, James Whitaker, Michelle Smith, Andrew Woodson, Lahue Bishop, Aubrey Duce Harley, Varnell Tall, Danyell Lanier, Kimberly McCants, Deena Ware, Ebony Leach, Timberly Roberts and Michelle Jones; and a host of other family, friends, and loved ones whose lives he touched.

Services will be held 3:00 P.M., Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Third Baptist Church, 550 Farmer Street, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Dr. Kassandra Bullock, Pastor, the Rev. Michael Jones, eulogist. The interment at National Memorial Cemetery at Quantico.
