Goodspeed Street Marker – Port Hueneme, CA

Goodspeed Street Marker — In Honor of CM2c V.R. Goodspeed, USN
Located in front of Building 1444, Center for Seabees and Facilities Engineering (CSFE), Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC) Port Hueneme

This small but meaningful monument sits at the corner of Goodspeed Street and 34th Avenue, directly in front of Building 1444—home to the Center for Seabees and Facilities Engineering (CSFE). CSFE is the current training center for the Navy’s Civil Engineer Corps Officers School (CECOS), Engineering Duty Officer School, and Naval Facilities Institute.

This marker honors Construction Mechanic Second Class V.R. Goodspeed, USN, of Naval Construction Battalion 19 (19th NCB), who was killed in action on January 17, 1944, during operations at Cape Gloucester in the Pacific Theater of World War II.

Dedicated in his memory, this marker not only preserves CM2c Goodspeed’s name but stands as a daily reminder to future generations of Seabees and Civil Engineer Corps officers of the sacrifices made by those who came before. It reflects the enduring respect for the bravery and service of Seabees who exemplified the “Can Do” spirit in both life and loss.
