South Dakota Seabee Memorial Black Hills National Cemetery — Sturgis, South Dakota

Black Hills National Cemetery 20901 Pleasant Valley Drive Sturgis, South Dakota 57785 (I-90, Exit 34)

A Seabee memorial stands proudly within the grounds of Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota, honoring the legacy of the U.S. Navy’s Construction Battalions.

The monument was made possible through the generosity of two contributing sponsors: the Disabled American Veterans, Northern Hills Chapter 11, Department of South Dakota, and BUCS Dennis Cutschall, USN (Retired), each of whom funded half the total cost.

The effort to bring the memorial to life — from securing VA cemetery approval to overseeing its purchase, delivery, and installation — was led by BUCS Dennis Cutschall and LCDR (LDO) Dick Turnwall, both U.S. Navy (Retired).
