The State of Connecticut, Department of Administrative Services (DAS), Division of Construction Services - Office of the State Building Inspector, is currently accepting applications for Boiler Inspector.

The Bureau of Boilers, part of the Office of the State Building Inspector, administers and enforces the Connecticut Safety Code for Boilers and Hot Water Heaters.

Position Responsibilities
The Bureau of Boilers within the Office of the State Building Inspector is responsible for administration and enforcement of the Connecticut Safety Code for Boilers and Hot Water Heaters. This position will be responsible for performing inspections for boilers that are not inspected by insurance companies. This position is based out of the team's main office at 450 Columbus Boulevard in Hartford and will perform boiler inspections throughout Connecticut.

As a Boiler Inspector with the State of Connecticut, you will:

  • Conduct detailed inspections of boilers and pressure vessels to ensure compliance with state regulations and safety standards
  • Identify potential risks and flaws in boiler systems and provide actionable recommendations to address these issues
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of inspections, findings, and any corrective actions taken
  • Collaborate with other state departments and collaborators to ensure seamless communication and effective resolution of any boiler-related concerns
  • Provide expert advice and mentorship on boiler maintenance and safety practices to facility managers and other relevant personnel
  • Take part in training and professional development opportunities to stay up-to-date with industry standards

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Five (5) years of experience in the construction, installation, repair and maintenance of steam boilers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
College training in mechanical engineering or a closely related field may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with cast, welded, or riveted pressure vessels or boilers
Experience in pressure vessel repair or in-service inspection
Experience installing or repairing boilers and hot water heaters
Experience performing boiler inspections on behalf of an insurance company
Experience with the Jurisdiction Online inspection software or other boiler inspection software
Experience using Microsoft Office Suite applications or software including Outlook and Word
