Salary - $94,188.00 - $114,468.00 Annually

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serves as a lead to Technicans by planning, scheduling, assigning, and prioritizing work projects.  Makes recommendations on team leave requests and performance evaluations.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs on vehicles, equipment, and heavy equipment; replaces air, hydraulic and anti-lock brakes; repairs transmissions; works on electrical systems; repairs.
  • Ensures work projects are completed and carried out in compliance with policies and procedures; monitors crews and inspects job sites; gathers bids for outside services; inventories and orders equipment, tools, materials, and supplies; completes and maintains records and logs for reports, service requests, materials and equipment used; receives and responds to call-out requests; and provides technical assistance on projects with other departments, contractors, and  other City/State/Regional agencies.
  • Designs and fabricates equipment parts not readily available including welding fatigued or failed components, converting equipment to meet seasonal needs, adding modifications to existing equipment, and designing specialized tools and accessories.
  • Performs routine inspections and preventive maintenance activities for City vehicles and equipment. Diagnoses and troubleshoots vehicle and equipment problems in the shop and in the field.
  • Prepares and maintains various records, documents, and reports.
  • Provides technical advice to others working in the shop and monitors shop equipment to ensure that the equipment is in safe working order.
  • Maintains reasonable, predictable, and regular attendance during the standard work week.
  • Prepares vehicles and equipment for replacement, to include removing special equipment and lettering.
  • Responds to service calls for emergency repair.
  • Assists departments in writing specifications for new equipment and vehicles; installs equipment; and makes modifications to equipment and vehicles.

Requirements

TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completion of an approved vocational program and three years of journey level mechanic experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Valid State of Washington Driver's License with applicable endorsements
  • Must have a CDL or be able to obtain a CDL in the first 6 months of employment. Candidates will be subject to drug testing per FMCSA regulations.
  • Employee must furnish a full set of their own SAE and metric hand tools
  • Emissions Certificate
  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • ASE certification (relevant A-series or T-series) – Preferred
