Description

About the Role

RCI Builders is hiring a Project Engineer for commercial and multifamily projects across Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Los Angeles Counties. The Project Engineer is the information hub of the project. Drawings, specs, submittals, RFIs, change documentation, and procurement all go through you, between the field, the design team, subcontractors, and the owner. You’ll report to the Project Manager, work alongside the Superintendent every day, and follow a structured path toward Project Manager. If you’ve tracked submittals, managed project documentation, or kept a build moving with clear, accurate information, including as a Seabee, we want to talk to you.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the RFI process. Identify issues in the field, submit RFIs the same day, and get every response to every affected trade.
  • Run submittals. Log, review, and route subcontractor submittals and shop drawings, checking them against all plan disciplines.
  • Track procurement. Build and maintain a procurement log covering lead times, fabrication, shipping, and on-site dates, and flag at-risk items early.
  • Capture changes. Document change events in Autodesk Build the day they happen, and support change order assembly and tracking.
  • Control the documents. Distribute bulletins, ASIs, and revised drawings, and keep every log current so the field is always building from the latest set.
  • Keep the team aligned. Take and distribute owner and subcontractor meeting minutes, and maintain the constraint log.
  • Support the field. Walk the job with the Superintendent, support quality control, run pre-installation meetings, and manage punch lists.
  • Support safety. Help with site orientations, weekly safety audits, and safety documentation.
  • Grow your skills. Assist with quantity takeoffs, bid coverage, and proposal review, with opportunities to rotate into estimating.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary with year-end bonus eligibility
  • A defined career path from Project Engineer to Senior Project Engineer to Project Manager, with clear standards at each level
  • Mentorship from experienced Project Managers, Superintendents, and executives
  • Medical benefits, plus voluntary dental and vision
  • 401(k) profit sharing plan
  • Paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays
  • A family-owned company where your work gets noticed and your growth is planned
  • Compensation: $72,000 – $100,000 annually, depending on experience

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 1+ years of experience as a Project Engineer or in a similar construction project role. Military construction experience counts.
  • Ability to read and understand plans, details, specifications, and building code
  • Experience with construction project management software (we use Autodesk Construction Cloud) and Bluebeam
  • Familiarity with OutBuild or similar scheduling software is a plus
  • OSHA 30 and First Aid/CPR, or willingness to obtain them
  • Strong organization and follow-through. You close loops the same day and don’t let issues sit overnight.
  • Clear written communication and a team-first, coachable attitude
